Now Republicans Are Running Away From Border Security Promise

These Republicans. Has there ever been a more disloyal, spineless, leaderless bunch? The Democrats are insane of course – but at least they are fully devoted to their own madness. Republicans prefer a more two-faced approach, promising many things while doing none of them.

The latest exhibit to be added to the long list of Republican broken promises is border security. Republicans are now running from the Trump “build that wall” promise that was critical in his winning the 2016 Election. So many Republicans are failing to follow up on this promise (they’ve been making it to voters for more than three decades) that an open floor vote might prove disastrous. Instead, a bit of cash will be thrown at the problem, a few miles of new fence, and tens of millions of dollars devoted to further “study.”

Check out this excerpt from a recent Politico report:

“House Republicans are poised to fund $1.6 billion for President Donald Trump’s border wall through a procedural maneuver designed to avoid a floor vote that might fail.

Border wall skeptics like Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a moderate Republican from a majority-Hispanic district in Florida’s Miami-Dade County, are well aware that they’re being bypassed. “I’m not OK [with it], but it is what it is,” Ros-Lehtinen told POLITICO in an interview. “We hope that it will be dealt with later on, but it looks like it’s going to be included in the package.” Perhaps, she said, it will set the table for a broader deal on immigration reform.

The amendment under consideration by the Rules Committee was drafted by Rep. John Carter, a Texas Republican and chairman of the Appropriations Committee’s Homeland Security Subcommittee. The measure would fund 60 miles of new fence and levee wall in south Texas and 14 miles of secondary fence in the San Diego area, and would earmark roughly $40 million toward planning for additional border wall construction.”

Within the context of a multi-trillion dollar budget, $1.6 billion is a ludicrous amount. In fact, it’s about half of what the government spends on vacations for federal employees. Republicans are merely attempting to pretend to do something about border security while in fact doing almost nothing.

It is phony posturing like this that has so many voters so frustrated.

It’s also why Donald Trump was elected POTUS.

We want our country back.

America needs a change.
