Earlier, D.C. Whispers went live with a report that outraged some die-hard Trump loyalists:
Within two hours of that report, this was the Drudge headline:
Dick Morris, who knows something of impeachment proceedings, then followed up with this editorial:
“The Trump Administration may never recover from the decision of Deputy Attorney General Rob Rosenstein to cave into Democratic pressure and appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the totally fictitious “scandal” of Trump’s relationship with Putin.
The prosecutor, hired to investigate something that never happened, will not report Trump’s innocence. Special prosecutors never do. They justify their own existence, importance, budget, and staff by finding something to prosecute. Usually the “crime” they end up going after is one that his own investigation has created.
Remember the Valerie Plame affair? After years of work the special prosecutor found that no crime had occurred. The person who leaked her link to the CIA was authorized to do so. With no crime to come up with, Patrick Fitzgerald, the prosecutor, indicted poor Scooter Libby, an aide to VP Dick Cheney, for perjury, a crime that would never have taken place had there been no investigation.
That’s how special prosecutors work.
In the meantime, they hobble the president, drain away his political credibility, separate him from his supporters, and paralyze his administration. No legislator is willing to lend his support for fear of what the prosecutor might find. Each one will run for cover rather than work with Trump to get something done.”
Trump supporters who simply repeat they are “Trump supporters” are actually doing more harm than good. Ignoring the real plight of this administration is a grievous mistake. Donald Trump has his back against the D.C. wall. There is blood in the water and the Establishment sharks are circling.
If these supporters, and there are still millions of them and so they remain a force to be reckoned with, merely shrug and declare all is well, President Trump will be no more. The big push-out is coming. The Trump White House is in panic mode. Staffers are lawyering up. Everyone is afraid of what they all now know is coming.
To understand how weakened Mr. Trump is at this moment, one need look no further than this excerpt from a report out today via Bloomberg Politics showing how dismissive Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is of the Trump White House:
“Earlier Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he’s prepared to block Trump on many of his proposed budget cuts and won’t support major tax cuts that add to the deficit. Nor would he commit to building Trump’s border wall.”
That is a Republican leader treating Donald Trump like Trump was the enemy. McConnell declares he doesn’t want smaller government, favors higher taxes, and less border security – all while calling himself a REPUBLICAN LEADER.
For his part Mr. Trump spent much of the day speaking to and with a graduating class of Coast Guard cadets. During his speech to them he declared we all must continue to FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
His enemies are betting many of his supporters will tire of the manufactured scandal and controversy sooner rather than later and begin to distance themselves from the President.
Time will tell.
